Update...Team OBC in 8th place overall - have left Carmacks

Team OBC is doing well. They are in 8th place overall in the race and are in 3rd place in the Coed Voyageur canoe category. They left the mandatory stop at Carmacks just about half an hour ago and they are in hot pursuit of the 2nd place Voyageur canoe team which is only one hour ahead of them. Go Team Go! Of course, in our minds, they are all champions for their commitment to raising over $12,000 in funds for Outward Bound Canada's Women of Courage program for survivors of abuse/trauma and for their commitment to preparing for the race. We are proud of you team!

OBC Takes on The World’s Longest Annual Canoe/Kayak Race

Ten of our amazing Outward Bound Canada staff (current and former) have just arrived in Whitehorse, Yukon and are preparing themselves for the VERY challenging, 2013 Yukon River Quest. Not only is completing the race an incredible feat, but our OBC team is also doing it for a great cause.  The team raised over $12,000 for OBC’s Women of Courage Program and in support of their participation in the race!

The Yukon River Quest is an annual marathon canoe and kayak race. Paddlers come from around the world to test their endurance, racing day and night to complete the 715 km journey from Whitehorse to Dawson City, Yukon on one of North America’s great rivers to the Klondike.

The race OFFICIALLY begins tomorrow, June 26th, and will run until June 30th. We will post as many pictures and updates as possible through the next few days (the team will loose cell coverage after Lake Labarge and so updates from then on will be limited).  For now, check out these pics of the team preparing for the days ahead and follow us on this blog or on Twitter for updates.
